TMNT vol 1 #5 first printing, signed by Kevin Eastman & Steve Lavigne sometime in the late 80s. Signed also by Peter Laird earlier this month at Shellback Artworks FCBD event!
Picked up this Nathan the Caveman by Ben Bishop this FCBD and finally sat down to read it tonight.
Great story. I don’t have the proper verbiage to describe it appropriately. I mean, really.
Great characters. Great feeling of them not just as two dimensional characters on paper. They could almost be friends or even a soft reflection of portions of my personal timeline, my life.
The artwork is awesome. I’m not going to post more, but if this in any way makes you want to read this… Track down Ben Bishop via Facebook or his site (bishart.net) and see if he has any copies left.
He is working on some new stuff and if I was personally rich and famous, I’d back all his work and have a house full of commissions.
Check out his TMNT #55RI cover (and prints) as well.
This morning I awoke 15 minutes before my 6am alarm went off. Bonus time for getting ready and getting out the door!
Managed to forgot my toll pass device but noticed before leaving the street… Picked up a folding chair to use while waiting before the shop opened…
Fast forward to about 7:45 am and I arrived at SHELLBACK ARTWORKS in Wells, Maine! To my surprise there was one out of state car already awaiting in the parking lot. Fast forward another half hour or so and the next three people arrived, friends from prior years!
Fast forward again to 11:30. We have all had multiple visits inside. The line outside isn’t very long and it was drizzling.
We all chatted, my cat got a new fan on her FB page and then it was almost time…
First trip inside for my pal so he got his photo taken with the guys. I had some books signed by all and Ben Bishop signed all the prints of his I snagged.
My pal Mikey was outside braving the cool misty rain! Where the line was short (almost no on outside after one trip through and i was 3rd or 4th person upstairs!) I decided to try getting a round two taken care of ASAP.
My TMNT messenger bag had already been signed by Steve and I was able to add Peter Laird and Eric Talbot today (and I had 3 items signed by them both on one trio! I feel special! Lol).
This is my 2009 (re)print of TMNT v1 collected edition which features the first 11 issues, micros series books and I think, the Fugitoid one shot. Again, all signatures where there before except Peter & Eric.
I had a TMNT #5 signed by Eastman & Lavigne that I’ve been holding onto for a while and decided now was a great time to have Peter sign it too so he did, inside with the others!
Ben Bishop signed his Nathan the Caveman sc novel for me. Can’t wait to read this.
I’m just going to post the prints and couple of sketches next. Getting late here and I’m beat.
These two books were an impulse buy… another friend (a few really) bought some and I thought, man I should have brought mine, but then picked these up real quick for round three…
And now, the prints…
That’s all I’ve got. Check out the Shellback Artworks FB page to see other fans pictures and cool items. If you missed out, I’m sorry… it was a wonderful time!!
Shellback Artworks, Wells Maine!!
TMNT!!! Cowabunga! #FCBD2016
Took a ride today because I thought I was fully feeling up to it… Went to see Rich Woodall and pick up a BatMikey and a page from a magazine he did, that he drew me into the Granite Con scene. (A NH magazine, which I should see if I can get a copy online maybe?)
Also snagged his BatRaph…
Here’s me, with Rich, his son and three dudes from Double Midnight in NH… I need a frame for the page. (No color… It’s the artwork before that part…)
I also picked up some blank/sketch variants from Jetpack. A friend snagged a Power Rangers #1 blank for me too.
Then we had a quick bit and I headed off solo to Shellback!
Ran into a few friends, Robert (pic) and Ben (not pictured, his birthday today) and picked up a couple back issues and had Steve sign a few items.
And I will have to upload more pictures later, after I take them…
Picked up some decent TMNT books over the last few days.
TMNT v2 #13 error edition. Cover was printed incorrectly.
A solid copy of Turtle Soup v1 #1.
TMNT v1 #5 first printing… And signed…
Signatures of Eastman & Lavigne, inside front cover.
Full run of Deadpool #1 through 9, all signed by Ed McGuinness in May 2010!
Prints I picked up when I had a table at Bangor Comic & Toy Con, that are not for sale!
Batman & company by Rich Woodall.
Darth Vader & the Infinity Gauntlet also by Woodall.
Supertopian by Ed Smith (& Rich Woodall)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Ben Bishop!
*Not For Sale*
This post is about the prints I purchased for Free Comic Book Day!

So today is Free Comic Book Day!!
I went to Shellback Artworks for about 7:30 am! I was the SECOND person there. Kevin managed to get there moments before I did to score that first place in line!! (That’s him behind the sign…)
I’m too tired to really put a lot of info in this but suffice to say, everyone had a blast!!
Last month when TMNT #44 hit newsstands, hype exploded that Donatello (the purple wearing, smartest of the bunch) was going to die!!
Obviously to those in the comic book world, Donnie wouldn’t stay dead or really for sure maybe even ever have been dead. Close to death, sure. For a fictional character anyways.
I kept seeing people posting the books for sale for $100s of dollars… And people were buying. All my local sources sold out the morning the book hit. I had my copies of each boom, but no extras.
Every time someone posted in any and all groups that Don was dead, I came back with no, #donsnotdead and showed some reference pages that had been released of the FCBD (this weekend!!) issue showing, just that. #donsnotdead
So, with a few friends from the interwebs, we talked about doing some pictures of Donnie alive and well (so to speak) and take pictures of an action figure Don at various places!
I started by digging out a BUNCH of Donatello’s!! And wrote a haphazard sign… Then started a group on FB for #donsnotdead (look it up… Lol).
